The Philosophy of Typography: Steve Acres

Artist Biography:

Hello and welcome to the online portfolio of Steve Acres. I have been studying the art of graphic design since 2001, but only for the past five years have I been actively involved in the art community. I strive to draw influence and inspiration from extremely diverse sources, as well as use a wide range of media to complete my objectives, therefore my designs are quite dynamic and wholly unique. I strive for a clear and appropriate message.

I do my best to fully submerge myself in many different things (especially different art trades such as music, bookmaking, writing, film, and nature) and in doing so my brain is always being stimulated by new experiences and making new connections. When it comes down to it, graphic design is fundamentally about making strong, inherent, clever, and ultimately clear connections between ideas. In exposing myself to such a wide variety of practices I am constantly increasing the possible design solutions I will create. I am always interested in expanding my design knowledge and I never grow weary of solving design problems. My thirst to create and my drive to solve problems are what set me apart from the masses, and I know it is this passion that will ultimately bring me success.

I am a twenty-one-year-old student currently living in Savannah and attending Savannah College of Art and Design. I recently achieved a B.F.A. in Graphic Design, graduating with honors, and I am now enrolled in SCAD's Graduate Program. Over the next year I will be achieving my Masters degree in Graphic design. After that, I am planning on immersing myself in the hustle-bustle that is New York City while I'm still young. Hopefully I will find a small/medium firm that will fit my design standards and will allow for some experimentation & exploration.

In my spare time, I like to do whatever I can to grow as a person. Most of my spare timeis focused on music and nature. I listen to a lot of different types of music, mainly progressive, post-hardcore, jazz, electronica, folk, metal, and everything in between. I've played drums for a number of years, I can play a little bit of guitar, I used to play flute (and hoping to relearn one day), and this summer I'm planning on learning my favorite instrument: the piano. As a child I always explored every environment that I could, and many of my days were spent sloshing around in creeks and ponds or pulling apart rotting logs to see what I could find within its decaying depths. I've always had an extreme fascination with nature, and I try to let these traits show through my work.

In addition to studioimbrue's main website, I am on Twitter as well as Behance.

Need some work done? I'd be glad to discuss it with you. Contact me with any questions you have at steve [at] studioimbrue.com.
