Stone and Industry, Lex Pott

Description by www.weheart.co.uk
With his work heavily influenced by the industry of processing raw materials, young Dutch designer Lex Pott has studied natures effect on ‘Belgian bluestone’ and produced a small collection of individual, beautifully raw tables that show off the natural forms the stone develops when extracted from deep underground. Clearly fascinated with the process of extraction, Pott retains huge sections of these rugged forms, whilst detailing the process in photographs that are then seemingly etched into the final, smooth work surface. For us, the future of design is all about that rough and ready rawness, the proliferation of originality and of respect being paid to an objects past or of it’s raw materials…. this piece works on all those levels and for a recent graduate, it’s truly inspiring….
